We are trying to pull those warty genes back out. Not sure if we can succeed but I will have seeds available from a cross with the warty ones genes on both sides. Or pumpkinpal himself might also have made a cross this year. Planning on putting mine in the seed exchange or I can send out a bubble later. The pumpkin is still on the vine. Hopefully the warts come back in some of the recessive genes which are hopefully doubled up again in some the seeds I will distribute.

Thanks for posting about this pumpkin baitman. I would plant this seed in heartbeat, if I was sure that it could attain significant size.

Would be interesting to see if it hold the virus thru the offspring... Im sure someone will grow it to find out, and let us all know.

Noteable one by swaintech 2016.
If it’s a virus I’m wasting my time.

From what I understand this is usually caused by mosaic virus.

Wizzys half right. Mosaic virus causes bumps, but I know "red warty thing" is an intentional cultivar. The way to tell is the virus looks like the bumps are under the skin, where genetically created bumps appear to sit on top.

I grew a Red Warty Thing plant this year. I got one pumpkin from the plant but I limited the plant size so I only would have one fruit. I'll try to post a pic in my diary. Mine is not as red as I though it would be.

I like the looks of them, and it could be a money maker for someone but they may be a pain to keep the skin healthy in a giant size
