For the last couple years, i've been compiling data on top pumpkin weight and top ten pumpkin weight, using this data to assemble historical trends to then predict future weight milestones.
As presented in Portland and Niagara at the respective GPC Big Shows, its fun to have a look at what the model predicts and ground truth that with what happens at the scales.
So as we jump into peak weigh off season, I thought it would be fun to have a refresher on the data prediction and circle back after the weigh offs to see where things land.
I've just crafted a blog post on the SCGA website with a graphical display of the statistical model prediction of when we may see 3000lbs.
You can read it here: https://www.stcroixgrowers.org/blogs/news/when-will-giant-pumpkins-break-the-3000-lb-barrier

I posted in the spring that if you had one taping 2600 and went 15% heavy, you’d be at 2,990. Those numbers are not at all unrealistic. It’s going to happen eventually. We have individual growers consistently beating 2000lbs now and we’ve seen a 2528 grown outdoors. It’s just a matter of time.
