Totally missed the $2500 bonus for a New England grown pumpkin and another $1000 for a New Hampshire grown pumpkin. That could be a North American record and $8500. What a night!

After little research, what do the 1911 Urena and the 1803 Gadberry have in common? 2145 McMullen as the seed and not the pollinator. The legendary 2145 grows stronger.

If 497 was the OTT, it looks like it went heavy by 5.2% according to the GPC 2018 estimation chart. But, math was hit or miss with me.

WR ott was 496". With Steve's measuring 497" I can't imagine the butterflies he must of had. What an awesome job. Can anyone confirm whether or not this was grown outdoors or in a greenhouse?

Thanks for all the congratulations and kind words, very humbling. And a special thanks to Leonardo for the 1911 seed and to Dave Davis and Gerry&Dani Gadberry for letting me grow their seeds (had 2 very large pumpkins that did not make it to scale from those seeds). As mentioned above it was grown outdoors. The OTT was 490.

I re-read this thread when I get a chance at work, and it makes me smile. That is just such an awesome non-flat tire looking pumpkin. Size is size so I am not overly judging, but man, who knew that a 2500 lb pumpkin could retain such a traditional shape.

There has to be a secret or two here?! Unless you do a tell-all Steve... I give up. Totally mind-boggling and I do think someone could hit 3,000 using whatever technique you used... Can't believe it. Obviously a good seed... but what a tremendous grower.

Just realized a downside to Steve's new record. A GPC bomber jacket is going to require growing a pumpkin over 2200 lbs.

9/28/2018 6:50:45 PM

My bad, you need to grow a pumpkin over 2300 lbs, to get a bomber jacket. Maybe it is time for bomber jackets for setting state records at a GPC event.
