Found two small spots on my main, at the joint where secondary vines come off. I've opened up the canopy, built clear rain covers, have scraped the spots, treated with bleach solution, a fungicide, and then fans.
My question is, when stumps do this a lot of times its best to open them up. Should I be thinking the same here? Spots are out closer to the pumpkin than the stump. Thanks for any input.

This late I would open it up to see what you have going on,I would rather lose a few pounds instead of the whole pumpkin

I just harvested my pumpkin and I had this problem so I had a good look at the vines where they were weeping. Where I had scraped out the rot and treated it as you have it was all clear and didn't go in far. In fact the places that hadn't been treated ie where the vine was in direct contact with the soil, the rot hadn't penetrated very far either. The rest of the vine around the rot area was perfectly ok and functioning well. I think you only have to worry if the rot really sets in and affects the vine to a great extent, so if you get to the small spots early as you have done then you should be ok.

Thank you.
I did make a small slice to see if anything would pour out, and it didn't appear to be full of liquid as stumps sometimes get. Daily treatment of many fans, scraping and alternating bleach solution and 91% alcohol has been helping. Getting some sun the past few days has helped as well I believe.
