I read a post earlier in the year about someone worried about mushrooms in the soil and the answer was basically good. My friend who passed away over the winter had reworked a small graded sloped area on his property..approximately 50'x200'.. It is a farm/excavation company. They made there own topsoil out of manure, wood chips dug up soil from jobs grass clippings, etc. He had covered the site with wood chips and would be willing to guess manure/topsoil underneath...sand being what was there. The whole area this spring was a huge mass of mushrooms and no weeds because of the wood chip top cover.. Lots of sun! I was wondering..without a soil test..if I should try some AG's in that area?? I have plenty of seeds and not worried if they don't do anything. I just remember the mushroom question earlier but that was on a much smaller area.

Seems like it should be rich. Tilling in those wood chips on top might cause some nutrient tie up while they are decomposing.
I would go for it.

Like I said no weeds..I would never till in woodchips..screws up the soil. I read Sawdust Is My Slave from 1920s?? My buddy had walking boards around his tomatoes with wood chips as mulch. I was impressed with his maters and him my kins! I was thinking about starting plants just below the top of the slope and running them down hill. Water available if I need it. Everything underneath has been piled , mixed and turned repeatedly. Just don't know what's underneath and kind of hard to ask him. Mushrooms thick and all over..probably from the manure..

Anybodys guess without a soil test.Prob gonna have. to use quite a bit of nitrogen to cancel out the wood chip effect.Wont know unless you try it

Several years ago I met a new grower at a weigh off who grew 1100 pound plus pumpkin on fully decomposed wood chip compost.
