I'm a 1st year grower I posted a picture of one of the plants I grew this year in the diary and photo section it looks totally different than any other plant I have and was hoping someone on here had any insight on what the heck happened or if that's just normal?

Is it at all the vine ends?...or just here and there?...this is one of those questions that can have many answers...was that plant treated any different?...is that plant at a different stage than the others?...different location?...my guess is lack of proper nutrition or the plant is in its whacky “sink” stage...but like I said , hard to know for sure ...tissue testing might help...either way, I wouldn’t sweat it...good luck

I get a minor version of this normally I figured out that if I put a lot of micro nutrients into the water the next day it goes away after a couple days. I would also add some nitrogen

I think it can be caused by to much shade also

Looks like a cluster for a Megabloom. Never seen it before. Every fourth node is interesting. Don't know how micro nutrients will make it go away..it's already there. This is not the time of year to add nitrogen. Probably some kind of genetic issue since it's only on one of your plants. Only growing for 3 years but have grown over a hundred.

I think that happens when you have enough macro nutrients or at least enough phosphorus but very low micros to make the plant grow right when ever I would get that and I would get that a lot I would foliar spray and water with borax, zinc sulphate, manganese sulphate, magnesium sulphate this would make the plant grow out of the flowers. By that I mean the vine would start growing and the flowers would not look in a cluster anymore because they were at every leaf node like normal. I might be seeing the picture wrong though and there is multiple flowers at every node.

Never mind I think that I saw it wrong I had a different problem we’re all the flowers inside the node were growing faster than the vine

The grow was a late thought to do something with my daughter,so we just planted all the plants in a 8" mounds and let them run wild over grass and all. We did use triple 13 and Epsom salts once a week. There was a split in the main vine on that plant early on, inside was about 6 tap roots bursting out so we just buried it and hoped for the best. There are 4-6 tendrils at each node as well, not sure if it can be seen in picture. I'm more of an inside grower, I wish I had this issue there.

It might be a ribbon vine

Yea..sounding like a ribbon vine plant...sometimes they get all whacky from the get go..sometimes they grow out of it...many people pull the plant when it starts to do that..good luck the rest of the way..I hope your already making plans for BiGGer next year...

Biological term is 'Fasciation'. An error in cell division at tip. A random thing, no causal factor. I have one pumpkin with main stem doing this. About 5" wide at widest. Also split wide open, for about 1 foot of vine, but has 10 feet of vine that grew past split. Vine grew very slowly. Set a fruit on it. Fruit grew quickly, but slowly now as 3/4 detached from vine.
