Hi guys I am a german pumpkin grower. This year it was extremely dry in germany. I finally was able to use groundwater and a pump to fill my 1000 l tank again and again. I found out that the Water from the ground is extremely cold. And since i watered with that cold water the growing rates of my two pumpkins got very low. At the beginning it was like 15,5 lbs a day. It got lower and lower by the weeks and is now like 6,5 lbs a day.
I just thought about using a heating cable in the water tank. To get the water warm over night. Any opinions/experiences about that? Next year i will maybe get another 1000 l Tank.

Try a submersible aquarium tank heater, buy the biggest and most powerful that you can find. It won't heat things up to 25-30 C, but it will take the chill off and bring the temp up a bit. Or buy two. Also cover the tank with black plastic and let the sun warm it as well.

I run my cold well water into a black plastic garbage can and let the sun heat it. I found that warm water evening helps as they grow at night. I also found that you can use cold water in the morning, let the sun warm the plant and ground during the day.

How about hot tub heater or using a hot tub to bring water up to temperature?

I found out that it would be way to expensive. In like 24 hours that would be like 2 € cost..
Now i thought about usind copper pipes leaning in the watertank. Copper is guiding the hear of the copper down to the copper that is in the water. So with some pipes it would maybe fastened to heat the water. Only with sun energy.
Does anyone know if copper is influencing the water for the bad in case of chemical issues?

At Convention Joel Holland was talking about a recirculating pump connected to garden hoses that he had laying in the sun or lining his driveway, that warmed the water in his larger holding tank.
We just let our water sit in a 250 gallon tote for 24 hours, but. Like Joel’s system and might try it with our other 1000 gallon holding tank.

I have used black pvc pipe set out in the sun to warm up water. It’s inexpensive and works real well with a circulation pump. I would use 1” verses 3/4”.
