Just curious what's the most you've had a pumpkin put on during September and what date it was pollinated

Does to me porkchop. Looking back at my charts from last year I only have one to go by and that’s right around 300 pounds. The three that were sabotaged last year had dramatic weight gain decreases starting around the 12 of September.

Me too Porkchop, extreme late gains are the only way I’m gonna chase down Richmond Dave and Spambie.

We hit 550 tp 600 pounds growth in Sepetember on two of our fruit the 1748 and 1803. Trick is keeping the leaves / plant healthy, dry and warm!

It really depends on night time temperatures and day time highs.

What are your nighttime temperatures to achieve those gains in September Gads? Our overnight lows in August and September are low 50’s.

I posted my last years temps for August and September and current. With those temps last year I gained 291 pounds on the one I took to Stillwater. That’s in OTT measurements. Stillwater was within 1 in of my measuring.

Hobbit, I had no idea Walhalla was so close to Winnipeg. When I saw your diary, the temps look similar (overnight) to what we get here on the coast of British Columbia. I’d say your knocking it outta the park on that land of yours.

Oh ya North Shore, I’m 100 miles south of Winnipeg. It’s hard to get big gains in September, even the latter part of August can be tough. I’m seriously thinking of a small green house over the best one. Don’t tell Qtip though. Lol

Did somebody say Winnipeg? ha. I just built a 38' x 10' greenhouse with 6 mil plastic over my best one about 10 days ago. It is not the entire plant, but it's better than nothing. I'll post a photo on my diary soon. I got two 1500W electric heaters in there as well as a Mr. Heater Big Big Buddy propane heater (4000, 9000 or 18000 BTU)

woops, just "big buddy". Not "big big Buddy". And yes - I have it vented so the carbon monoxide doesn't get me. It also has a low oxygen shut off feature which is neat

I did one last year on the 1629 I took to Stillwater. It was way to late thought to make a difference. I put it up right at the end of September.

You should go to the Winnipeg Weighoff and take a run at the top trophy.
I’m considering a screenhouse over 1/2 our patch in hopes of creating a micro climate for September, but that may have to wait. I know we need a shade solution because we got some scalding and burning this year.

Gail woods the 6th, Anoka the 7th and Stillwater the 13th. Correct if those dates are incorrect.

Mine aren’t bad at all this year North Shore, nothing like last year. I attribute that to the corn rows I planted running north and south. My plant received a lot less direct sunlight. As well as there we have long hours of blazing sun during the day Almost all my leaves are much healthier and ready to carry through the rest of the season. And now that the corn is gone I’m getting an extra 2hrs of direct sunlight.

Thanks Steve, sorry to be lazy but my own numbers and math have me confused already.
I enjoy your diary Steve, what are your September overnight temps? You are a lot closer to Nova Scotia than Florida, so I’m thinking it must start getting chilly there like it is here now. High of 70 yesterday and low of 52. The weather here cooled down by 6-8 degrees high and low.

77 is the overnight low, hoping to pick up some pounds still even though leaves are fried.

I don’t know how you do it Luke, thanks to those shade trees you have I guess or you’d need shade cloth or something. Thanks f we could get 65 degrees as our consistent overnight lows, I’d be happy
I hope Spambie comments here, he gets fantastic growth sometimes in September, even with cold evenings.

Last year i had a very late start because of the excessive monsoon rain. I started my germination late and plants got in the ground May 14th. This pushed everything back and i got a late pollination date of July 15th. August i believe it was around 800 pounds as seen from my last post on August 30th 2017 in my diary. That pumpkin grew fairly steady during September and it weighted 1543 at the October 7th weighoff. It was still chugging along when it was picked. The growth profile was fairly linear and at the peak day 30 to day 45, it never got much over 30 pounds a day. Last year our September weather was good and our night time temps were in the 60's. This year is bad already in late August our day time temps have not even been in the 60's with night time in the upper 40's. Forecast is horrible for the next 2 weeks.
