If a pumpkin stops growing and it just sits in patch until the weigh off how long will it last if it was in good shape? Mine are still growing just worried if they stop pretty soon how long will I have. My weigh off is mid September.

Keep it clean and dry, you'll be fine. Many have been kept off the vine until late November.

Sometimes I have had them stop growing around Labor Day. Weather plays a big part in how long they last. A cool September will keep them a lot longer than a hot September. I'm worried myself. Our week plus of cold nights has slowed my biggest pumpkin down a lot.

Years ago I had a squash that stopped 2-3 weeks early I left it on the vine in the patch until weigh off. Was my biggest ever at the time. If the fruit is sound they will hold.

It truly depends on why they stopped. Did they stop because it was mature? or did they stop because there is an under lying issue. If there was an under lying issue most likely the rot has started. Nothing like the bottom dropping out of a pumpkin and you getting a shower of pumpkin puke to make the pumpkin handlers happy.

Josh, FYI, I live just west of Bowling Green. Any time you are down this way, I'd be glad to have you stop by. Not many of us around here that care to share.
