I know a lot of you growers are looking for longer than 60” measuring tapes. I found 120” and 288” pvc and Fiberglass reinforced measuring tapes at Hobby Lobby, or go to hobbylobby.com http://www.bigpumpkins.com/Diary/DiaryViewOne.asp?eid=294659

I just opened the package and the 288 in is 144 inches on one side then continues with 145 inch on the other. Sorry about that, I had my hopes up.

Tape them together and you are all set. Gap between 120 and 144 though... two of the 144s taped together should last a lifetime. When I grow something bigger than 288 cc I'm done!

I would think something likes this would work well, unless I am missing something obvious. It is measured in inches and is 200 feet long. But I have never needed a tape over 6ft long. :-)

I have to use this 200 footer since my soil is so dialed in this year.

Whatever happened to the official giant pumpkin measuring tape with inches and weights on it? I bought one from someone years ago...but can remember who.

Hobbit. I did the same thing last year. How ever if you by 2 and carefully splice them together with electrical tape on the back side and wrap around with packing tape. You get a 288” tape. It worked pretty good a Topsfield last year and we had a few that needed it. One thing I would do is spray paint the back side with a vinyl spray paint to know you didn’t twist the tape when it went around the pumpkin.

Good idea Mike. I had an old 66 foot but it got all twisted up inside the real. Then I found out it’s almost an inch off by the time I get to 5 ft. This summer I’ve been using a 60 in I’m way past that now. I’ve found 25ft and 50 ft cloth reals on eBay so I ordered those. I like the inch ones so my mumble jumbled mind doesn’t have to convert ft to inches. 100ft or larger reels are to big they just get in the way.
