how would you set-up your plant the garden gets full sun until the trees leaf out A would be gentle on the older leaves,B would be 50/50 and dotted line C would give the fastest start but weak ending

cut the trees - full sun for best results - you can always provide a form of shade if need be.

Full sun and lots of healthy roots would be ideal but you will do just fine with some afternoon shade in mid summer. I think it could reduce aborts to have part of the plant shaded. Start it out in full sun though. Dont try to start in a shaded area.

My two healthiest plants are getting some afternoon shade. I have shallow sandy soil... so many of my plants in full sun are not doing as well.

I'd try putting the planting area in the sunniest end and or the end with earliest sunlight.Warmer dirt /bigger pumpkin.

I think the cool soil and pumpkin is the biggest drawback, I wont cut the trees because they are old oaks, but they arent very healthy either

I started my plants on the sunniest end and grew them towards the shadiest end of my patch. Plants have very long main vines (25+ feet) but few secondary vines.
