I have a slow drip of clear liquid coming from the bottom of my stump (basically where all the roots start coming out) on one of my plants. I just posted 3 pics in my diary. Can anyone tell me what is going on????I have never seen this before. Is there anything I should do?

get sulphur and fan on it asap, hopefully bacteria hasnt been able to get in it, watch it very closely for rot to start. you may have to cut the stump it starts to rot or split it.

Not sure why it's happening, but I would get the knife and drain it asap. It's not a foamer now, but it likely will be soon otherwise.

Russ, in an earlier posting pap was talking about foamers, and mentioned that they usually start with the wet spot you have pointed out. He is the link:

Hope it works out for you, let us know what happens.

So I guess what you guys are saying is that what I am seeing is the early stages of a foaming stump! A first for me. I'm so lucky!

My two cents on foaming stumps, which we have had our share... As the plant reaches full size and is terminated all those juices that are pushing through the plants vascular system that were expanding its growth have nowhere to expand to creating (basically) high blood pressre inside the plant. I think that because the stump is the oldest part of the plant with the largest root system it is where the excess pressure is relieved from. Call me crazy but thats my theory. We started reducing water in the stump area and keeping it clrear of suckers while keeping ip on fungicides, seems to reduce the occurance of foamers.

I've had 2 of these "leakers" the last 2 years - I tried drilling a hole to relieve pressure at first but ended up cutting them both open, cleaning out and keeping them dry. Both I was able to save the majority of the stump and the kin - I grew a 1481 and 1736 with the stumps cut open...there's hope :) good luck!

I only had one ever drip on me, and in hindsight I should have cut it open right away. It only dripped more and stank more over time. There was a lot of liquid building up inside. Eventually cutting it let drain out, and gave it a fighting chance to dry.

Qtip,do you have photos in your diary that shows where to cut and how to proceed?
I’ve never had a dripper or former, but would sure like to be ready f it ever happens.

usually when i have noticed the leaking from the stump, there is already rot inside the main and 99% of the time i just have to cut off the stump. the one time i tried to save the stump i lost 1/3 of the plant by waiting to cut it off.
