Looking for comments about how much vine burying is done in your patch beyond the pumpkin.
Do these roots grow just as large as those before the pumpkin? Or is it harder to get good root growth from the vines after the pumpkin?
Does anyone NOT bury the vines after the pumpkin? And if not...do you feel you get the same results or worse results vs if they were buried?

I don't think you can have too many roots. I cut off just enough roots on either side of the pumpkin to prevent stem stress. Then I try to get every node rooted. I don't bury the whole vine, just place enough soil at the nodes to make sure the roots get a good start. Beside feeding the pumpkin, well rooted vines prevent wind damage. And if you lose the stump for any reason, the roots past the pumpkin become even more important.

Roots after the pumpkin are mostly going into soil that doesn't have roots from the crown/stump.Thats a untapped resource:)
