I just set on a pumpkin out around that area, my 15.5 didn't take =(. my last attempt on main vine is 21ft out. anyone have any success stories this out or you think its better to just go with a 10-15 secondary?

You can grow huge pumpkins far out on a main. I've grown an 1828 & a 1944 at about 20 feet

Steve Daletas doesn't even think about pollinating before 20 feet. Look at vineman 20 feet out.

I've read up a lot about this and from what i can tell it really doesn't seem to matter. 10-25 feet seems to make no difference huge pumpkins have been grown at all distances. What you really need is a very healthy plant and a pollination around June 21 or so.
