What is the difference in growing a plant to get a 500-900 lb pumpkin in a smaller space compared to an unlimited sized plot? I'm intrigued with this, not just from a competition perspective, but for ease of maintaining a smaller plot lol! Anyone want to share their techniques publicly or in a private email? I'd love to get more info on the differences.

I did something different than I would in a normal plant. I trained the main to make a full circle around the main. Looks like I will get 4 extra nodes to root and leaf, I cut off the side vines. Now we are ready to head out another 12 ft to terminate.

Basically the same but with a long narrow patch it sure is easy to access weeds flowers vines... And the watering can be done maybe by one standard drip line or by hand even. Drawing pre-warmed water from a barrel is easy. Dumping 20 gallons on is fast and easy. If the plant is somewhere close to water you would not have to have a well or pump. I may try this on a couple of mine. Only one or two big plants for me this year. A big plant really is more work. Work is proportional to sq ft in my experience. You will have more time to stand and stare at your plant, sing to it, read it a bedtime story. Or to post long answers to great questions on bp!

In all seriousness 150 is so much easier. Consider cutting the main at the pumpkin and dont worry about all the s curves or slack in the vine and some of the later adjustments should be easier...

I don't grow the biggest pumpkins in 150 square feet but I posted a drawing of my vine pattern in my diary.
