When do most of you unplug your heat cables for the season? I’ve been using Andrea’s digital meat thermometer to check soil temperatures, and figured when the rest of the patch is about the same as the heated area, I was good to unplug.

What does everyone else do that uses heat cables?

I was told, if they have thermostats built in, you could actually leave them plugged in all year. So in reality, when you are tired of tripping over the extension cord.

the way I used heat cables I removed them when I pulled the hoop house... cause I had a hard time getting them out in fall so I changed the way I installed them... but I think I said to much... got you thinking now don’t I

Yeah unplug them when you pull the hoop. Otherwise you forget and till the cord. Not that I would actually do that. :)

Yeah, Gary waits to long Glenn. I rip mine out once the plant is about 10’ X 10’.
It also rips out half the rot system but hard to deal with at the end of the season.

Most years my whole plant is a rot system. Maybe I should be ripping it out sooner!

Thanks. I certainly won’t rip the out as my California buddy recommends but I will unplug them at some point. I’ll leave them plugged in for now, it’s still below 60 degrees at night here, so still kinda chilly.

lol, Chris. For newbies reading this, notice the lines of latitude and input. It's like Kelly Slater telling Wayne Gretzky how to take a slapshot.
