Assuming that you have a contest about a week in to October, what would you say is the perfect pollination date? It seems to get earlier every year.

Is there data anywhere that has accurate pollination dates of the largest pumpkins that have been grown. I known that the GPC forms ask for that data, but i don't believe it is recorded anywhere.

Info I could find 2624 - June 11th 2363 - June 24th 2323 - June 19th 2269 - June 2nd ? 2261 - June 21st 2252 - June 26th ? 2230 - June 24th 2228 - June 9th
Not 100% positive on the Paton kins as when I back figured on dates in the dairy they may have not posted the same day as measure but they should be close. If we average the 8 kins over 2200 we get a target pollination date of June 17th

I like to pollinate about 100 days before my event. I think a grower's region and greenhouse vs outside might be factors too.

Some are on the vine longer than 100 days if you really wanted you could try 120 days but I've never heard of one on longer than that.
I cant believe how early here... a silly little cover for one plant NOT a full greenhouse and suddenly I am a month ahead of last year.

Check out Tom K diary 2017 he has info there that may help you decide. Look through the first dozen entries...

I started later this year (04/13), but my plants are well over 17 feet long and I will be pollinating both within 5ish days. Not my choice, but the consistent heat.

Sorry, I never answered the original question so here's my 2 cents. I'd say the safety net days of 07/10 for a pollination date and to be a "top" competitor are far gone. It seems the biggest are all pollinated around the mid to second half of June. C2K makes a great point about outside vs greenhouse too, because just keeping a viable fruit that long outside is more challenging. If these early pollinations are my keepers in the next week, I can guarantee they will be off my plant by mid Sept and our state weighoff isn't until October. Spence is probably right about the State fair.

I'd say first week of June here. Guaranteed good weather here on out with longer days. If September is nice then consider it a bonus.

mid june would be fantastic but to do so you need great early weather+large greenhouse or high tunnel+a main/kin at least 18 ft out.
if you accomplish all that you only need to worry about is deformed segments- disease-storms-wood chucks and hail damage
piece of cake pap
