I dig a trench with a hoe, add a mix of organic fertilizers with beneficial bacteria, like Jobes, Espoma or Burpees, mycorrhizae and a bit of Osmocote extended release fertilizer. I mix this into tje trench soil so I don't end up with hot spots under a vine. Then I cover with a mix of soil and compost. Sometimes I find bagged potting soil on clearance in October and use that in place of compost.
