I received a 2,307 Wallace seed from an auction that was badly damaged in transit. I'm curious if I can store it in the freezer in its current condition. There should be a photo posted to my grower diary soon. Has anyone had any experience storing a seed in this condition? Thanks, Thomas

Last year I too received a damaged 2307 from an auction. I wanted to germinate the seed but wanted to practice a bit beforehand. So I rummaged through my freezer and test germinated all the cracked seeds I could find. Have a look at my diary from March, 1 2017. All but one seed from the freezer germinated.

I germinated two 2096's last year that were cracked, one real badly. It still sprouted. I have never stored seeds in the freezer so I am not sure how that would affect the seed. I haven't had much issue with older seeds germinating even though they were stored at room temp.

Storing the seed by freezing shouldn't hurt it(no defrost cycle freezer).Being that the radicle end didn't seem to get crushed the seed could be good.

Because it came from an auction I guess you take your chances. How ever you can strip the seed coat from a seed carefully to get the inside and germinate it but that is left to experienced botinist’s. If it doesn’t look like the inside of the seed is damaged give it a try. I did see your diary pic. I would definatly let the auction site know what happened. They may not be able to replace the seed but you put them on notice.

It wouldn't hurt to contact the club and let them know it was damaged during shipping. I had two 2150 Skinner seeds damaged in shipping. I contacted the club and they sent me two new seeds and I sent the damaged ones back. They even insisted they would refund me for shipping the damaged seeds back.

Thanks for the advice. I guess it will go in the freezer and I will hope for the best. This is the first time I've ever received a seed that was damaged in transit- I was really surprised to see that after so many years. Hopefully the club will choose to use a better envelope in the future. I e-mailed the photo to them when I received the seed and never heard back from them.

Wow I received a 2307 [from an auction] with the tip damaged [broke right off] in the mail. Still waiting for a replacement I was promised a month ago.

Something should be placed inside the bubble to make it bulge out. So no rollers
