I had an internship at TPC sawgrass in 2012. I grew two fruit down there that weighed 299 and 300 pounds respectively. I think with more time to prepare I could of done much better. So the answer is yes they can grow very well in that area!

Lived in Jax Beach for a couple of years. Given the weather, I'd do your patch prep and start seeds ASAP. Get a shade cloth for when the heat starts.

Thanks! I could probably start the seeds mid to late March...Would that be too soon? My concern is when will be pumpkin be mature?? Hate to have it mature middle of summer:-(

When I was down there in 2012 I started my seeds in late March and harvested the fruit in late July. They would of grown longer but I was heading home to Indiana and wanted to take them with me.
I actually hauled the two pumpkins from Florida to Indiana and entered them in the Indiana State Fair pumpkin contest.
