How much space do you have? How many pumpkins (actual fruit, not plants) do you intend to produce? What is the size range you are shooting for?
All of these factors will dictate optimal spacing.

I use around 250 to 300 sqft for my AG/s in the commercial patch.

I would love around 200 lbs, much big people cant lift them. I have about 7,000 sq ft. If it works out im doing 2 acres next yr

You could grow 2-3 200lb pumpkins on a single plant of 100-150 sq ft of space.
Doesnt take much area to get to that goal.
If you want 2-3 fruit in the 500lb range, then agteacher's suggestion of 250-300 sq ft is more appropriate.
2 acres of giants would be quite an ambitious project, best of luck!

I hate to say this but you would be better off with prize winner or some Maximus strain designed to produce many smaller fruit. I have seen very impressive production (I forget if it was prize winner or big max or another) when well cared for. 334 House or 229 Boyd 1109 Borgers might be consistent types

phil, I have a few extra 1109 seeds. If you will plant them and try to self them I will send them to you. Take a look at pumpkinfanatics , at the 555 Haan 2017 which was grown from the 1109. Unfortunately, all 555 seeds were lost. I was going to plant the 1109 this year, but it seems for my two plants, I will be growing a 2118 and a 2145 selfed/sibbed. I have to have a successful year at big before I go back to orange.

Have you won a 2118 seed or bidding on one now on the IGPGA auction?

I have one and am bidding on one...wile coyote...i know I overbid you on Igpga. Lots of days left in the auction. Mn state record is only 1147. I think that Scott Steil should be getting concerned..considering how many growers in Mn that I have seen winning 2118 seeds in auction.

I won a 2118 seed that I should be getting in the mail this week from the SNGPG auction. I think Qtip won a 2118 seed at the UMGPG auction. That makes 3 of us with 2118 seeds. Scott will have lots of competition this year with squash.

I believe that Kevin Walsh is also in possession of a 2118. There might be about a 1/2 dozen of us that can challenge Scott this year. If we cant grow more than 1147 from a seed from a 2118...we need help.

I’ve had a couple years where I’ve grown 4-5 smaller pkns on small to medium size plants. It’s actually less stressful than 1 big 1 on a giant plant.
