In an experiment to beat the May and onwards heat here, I germinated indoors early under lights and have planted out with good winter protection. The main vine is already 10 foot long and its branching out great. The vine is not as thick as I am used to see growing in my patch over the past few years. Leaves are already fully grown and a good size :-) Should I be concerned at the thinner vine or have past pumpkins been grown on thinner vines ..?

In any event, now is a good time to bury the vines at the leaf nodes (at the points where the leaf stalks join with those thinner vines) WITH a small amount of Mycorrhizae (beneficial fungus) that you can look up about on this website's search window, front page, and the plant may just be at just the right temperature and nutrition levels that enable it to grow so quickly---a fast runner is a skinny runner, so i'd see about knowing how much Nitrogen is present in the soil makeup before doing anything differently; Still, do the vine-burying, though, for the full life of the plant; Also, AGs like to grow quickly across lawns, unchecked other vegetation, dry soil, etc.,
to get to a 'better place'; i hope this helps you---eg

Does to much nitro make the vines thinner?

The 1625 Gantner that I crossed into that seed had fairly thin vines.
