I am doing a practice plant with my 1275. I noticed it is forming a ribbon vine, it is making no sense on why it is. It was grown of the 1223.5 Gansert. The ribbon vine is not in the genetics I don’t think. Anyone now why this could possibly be happening?

I have corrected double and ribbon vines successfully on a few occasions using a method that I heard was passed along by Jim Kuhn. All you need to do is drench the soil with water. 48 hours of constant full moisture is what has worked for me, but we have a heavy clay soil where I live, so if you have a soil that drains better, you would want to adjust accorindgly. If you overdo it, you could damage your plant, but I've never pushed it that far and saw the double and ribbon vines corrected in about a week. The doubles usually just narrow back down to one, while the ribbons split into multiple vines and you just pick the best one to keep as your main vine. We went through this with our 2145 McMullen plant last year. There was a stretch of about 5 leaf nodes early on that had the ribbon mutation, then it was a 100% normal plant after the drench treatment.
I've been wondering if these mutations are actually a symptom of a very aggressive plant just not getting quite enough water to grow quite right. It's just odd that something that appears to be so severe can be corrected so easily. Maybe that's something that some of our resident plant scientists can follow up on.

Doubles can be fixed by just terminating one of the vine ends

The doubles and ribbons are sometimes due to stress like water as Truck mentioned above. I’ve had a few and never put that together until someone else pointed out. If you are growing it in a pot in the middle of winter, I wouldn’t jump to conclusions about the seed.

After looking at the pic on FB, I think the vine is normal? I wouldn’t worry too much about that seed.
