I’ve used Howard dill seeds for the past 10 years or so and have had luck but was thinking about trying the Wallace seeds this year. What do you guys use? Any preferences? Thanks

Most- if not all- of the growers here are using seeds from controlled pollinations. I think the Dill website lists these as premium seeds and the Wallace lists them as private stock.
I have purchased seeds from both in the past and was happy with both. All of the seeds germinated and the plants were healthy.
Seed selection ultimately depends on what your goals are. Are you growing giant pumpkins for sale and not focused on competition? The non-pedigree seeds from either Wallace or Dill will work for you, probably with similar results.
If you're growing for competition, or looking for specific traits (such as a vibrant orange color), pedigreed seeds would be the way to go. Even if you are growing for commercial purposes, it would be worth your while to explore pedigreed seeds that have been selected for color and Engel's seeds might be an option for you. Here is his website: http://www.gr8pumpkin.net/giant_pumpkin_seeds_for_sale
Also be aware that many growers are willing to share seeds from their own pumpkins for free if you just send a self-addressed stamped bubble pack or payment for shipping costs for international shipping.

i'd like to suggest my 443.5, 178 and 250, along with the rest, of course; each of these has grown a 399 est./648.5, 699 est. and a 405.5, respectively and easily, all of them more orange than the mother fruits, even with MY limited grower diligence, and the sky is the limit for weight in any other grower's hands. check them out.

mntwins025 Where are you in Canada? I'm in Nova Scotia. I could send you seed from my 838 (2075 Connolly x 1824 Shenoha) and my 957 (1824 Shenoha × 2075 Connolly. The pumpkins were not hugh as it was only my second year growing but the genetics are there.

Ok thanks thought I could save him some postage. The last seeds I had shipped from the states cost the club over $13. Shipping costs are getting crazy!!!

When you buy a high end seed from Wallace or dill your buying a controlled pedigree but there pricy. So it comes back to what your pumpkin goal is. Both offer great top of the line genetics and both offer economy seeds ones not better than the other

Sorry guys for the delay. I’ve tried for dark orange and perfect shaped pumpkins in the past, this year I’m focused on size. Farmer brown I’d love some of your seeds. I’m on spring break this week so I could pick them up at PetCo! My email is rraider14@yahoo.com
