I will be doing the same this year, 1st time using both. I was told to be careful with Eagle, as too much can burn the plant

Do they make Merit in a liquid form? I've been using the generic form Zenith75 wsp. I would like to get away from handling the powder and switch to liquid but can't find it.

Hank, the active ingredient in merit, imidacloprid, can be found in many liquid products, in different concentrations. The following I copied and saved from a past post on here about using different liquid (and powder) merit products:
All rates are calculated per acre first. Then I'll divide by 43.56 for the rate per 1000 sqaure feet.
It is best to apply Imidacloprid a week or two prior to planting out in at least 2 gallons of water per 1000 square feet then water it in slowly without puddling. This will control Cucumber Beetles, SVB, & Aphids for about 90 days.
Then repeat the same drench application also watering in at 75 days to cover the rest of the season.
First the Flowable liquid formulations:
Bayer Tree & Shrub*........1.47% Imidacloprid 233-350oz/acre Bayer Merit 2F*...........21.40% Imidacloprid 16-24oz/acre Bayer Admire 2F...........21.40% Imidacloprid 16-24oz/acre Bayer Provado 1.6F*.......17.40% Imidacloprid 20-30oz/acre
Now the various Wettable Powder formulations:
Merit 75WP*...............75.00% Imidacloprid 6.4-8.6 oz/acre Merit 75WSP*..............75.00% Imidacloprid 6.4-8.6 oz/acre Provado Solupak*..........75.00% Imidacloprid 6.4-8.6 oz/acre
So........
Bayer T&S.....................5.35-8 oz per 1000 square feet Merit 2F...................10.3-15.4 ml per 1000 square feet Admire 2F..................10.3-15.4 ml per 1000 square feet Provado 1.6F...............12.8-19.3 ml per 1000 square feet Merit 75WP & 75WSP..3-4 level teaspoons per 1000 square feet Provado Solupak.....3-4 level teaspoons per 1000 square feet

Remember that systemic insecticides are bee killers. Not a problem if you are only raising hand pollinated pumpkins but in my case of having a pumpkin business Imedicloprid only gets used at planting and is usually out of the plant system by blooming. Only non systemics sprayed at dusk after that.

Great point on the Bees! Gotta protect them :) I'll only systemic after fruit set when I can remove all flowers to help prevent killing bees!

Been a small time beekeeper for 40+ years. Don't believe the hype around imidachloprid and bee death. Good science doesn't back it up.

---none of my business, but what are you gonna do up until you have your fruits set? i suggest doing what agteacher suggested and that way, early-on, the cuke beetles will take a hit when they take a bite (they do NOT only eat the pollen and nectar as the bees do - they chew holes in leaves and infect the plants therein with Bacterial Wilt, the two main reasons FOR the Imidacloprid) and if the Imidacloprid is gone or weak enough by the time tons of flowers are opening and attracting EVERYTHING, then it would be of no consequence to any of them, but the plant would have been protected in the meantime, up until then; also, everyone, if we were able to, we could protect the plants like Fort Knox with Imidacloprid IF we were removing ALL of the males and storing ONLY the selected ones INDOORS at night until the pollination moment, nylon-mesh-bagging (not PAPER - are you kidding me?) the females(S) the night before, and zip-tying them shut after pollination to completely eliminate the problem for the bees, yet still nailing the cuke beetles because they devour the plants otherwise. yes, an arduous task, based on grower diligence, but, keeping those poor bees in-mind - if you only knew what Imidacloprid DOES to an insect...there are biological alternatives.

Before fruit set I'll use non systemic. I need to change fungicides and insecticides a couple times during the year. Don't want to build any resistance.
