Deal With It

Face it—most of us who embrace modern technology can’t stand the archaic chat format of the BP chat rooms.

So, instead of continuing to complain about it, we’re doing something to help Ken raise money for a chat format which won’t make new growers run screaming from the hobby.

Our goal is $1000, and all proceeds will be sent directly to Ken so that he can employ his tech savvy to bring us into the modern era.

Blockbuster was a company that depended on revenue streams as a service provider and was unable to compete with new technology while keeping up with costs.

BP is a free website that doesn't depend on any income due to services provided. It's simply a place where a very small niche come to exchange ideas. There is also zero competition.

If Ken wants to update his site he offers for free when he has spare time from his real job, so be it. I'm fine with whatever.

I worked for an indoor arena for 14 years. Southern Gospel once maxed out the place with a crowd of 11,000. Now, the same performers draw a crowd of only 4000.

The answer is that the crowd has literally died off, and the remaining Old Guard doesn’t care enough to appeal to younger and/or newer fans.

There was a thread on this message board regarding the stagnant or decreasing number of growers, so put the knives away.

Would this enhance the chat room only ? Or would it enhance the auction thread also ? As in I would be able to see past lot's and what they brought while I was looking at the whole lot on the message board to see what lot's where comeing up. On my end when I exit the auction chat and then come back all previous bids etc. are gone and only the most current appears. That would keep me from asking what a certain lot brought while I was away refreshing my cocktail. I am 57 and realize we need to embrace technology and it's advancements. So far I see no negatives in what OklahomaGPC is trying to do. My 2 cents worth.

It’s not just that you can’t see the past text in the chat room, but that the text DISAPPEARS so quickly that if you’re participating in an auction, you have such a limited view of what’s happening.

The brand became redundant and the old guard has died or is dying. The old guard refused to present Southern Gospel in any other format than what it had done since day one. It failed to evolve.

As long as big money is being paid out for pumpkin contests, this brand will survive, it doesn't need to evolve or improve. Matter of fact, the guys and gals that consistently earn the money rarely make "appearances" here if at all. I think there's a lesson in that.

Old growers on chat help very much, im a new grower and been on chat for around 3 years. I have gotten pb each year thanks to the help of the older growers. Its not just me either, hundreds of growers has gotten help on there. As a new grower i have alot questions about growing and if any of the growers can help me they do. They also send me free seeds at thier own cost. Its the best tool for a new grower. As far as auctions i dont leave the room if i want to know how much a lot went for.

Hey, Qualley—I was fairly certain that all of the regulars know that I’m Claremoron/Claremongoose. I wasn’t trying to hide my identity, but I did a damn good job of making people angry, just as I do every day on FB news articles.

My only true addiction is trolling, and I can guarantee that a lot of people will be fooled when I pop up again more than a year from now, with a new account and location.
