Anyone try stinkbug traps for squash bugs? Rescue and bonide make one-the rescue trap can have a light attachment(who knew that would help) added. Did either trap work?

I tried one, I can't remember the name brand, I bought it at Lowe's. It didn't work. I'm hoping the svb traps from Hollands works some. I had a ton of squash bugs last year, pretty sure they're responsible for 2 plants dying

Thinking I have heard two different chemicals for squash bugs & SVB's? Which is which? All info is appreciated! They come here at two different time frames! Peace, Wayne PS...which one lays the lil black eggs on bottom of leaves? & will the spray kill the eggs?

use a bifenthrin insecticide for stinkbugs and cucumber beetles, and use a generic Merit75 (imidacloprid - 75%) for SVB

One patch has two plants with bug netting-other patch has shade cloth only/three plants.Ive had ,in years past, dozens of squash bugs in that front patch. I tried the rescue brand trap about 4 years ago and didn't catch even one.I was hoping they changed their attractant formula.Ive got a neighboring city garden that keeps a nice reserve of squash bugs, cucumber beetles and mosaic virus carrying aphids. The plants that have bug netting are adjacent to the city garden-that's my De Militarized Zone

I just saw a stink bug in the house the other day. To me they don't look the same as squash bugs. Similar but not the same.. Does anyone know if they are a different species than squash bugs?

Big Moon, funny you say that, every year in early December we get the Stink bugs in the house. I can't confirm the difference, but the stinks turn a brown color and they enter our 100 year old home. They definitely look alike.

Joe, sorry I can't help with the traps. I don't have an issue with them during the summer.

bifenthrin does kill squash and stink, the adult squash is harder to kill but bifenthrin kills them

Peace Wayne I had trouble with Squash bugs years ago. I have never seen them lay black eggs. The egg masses I saw were always a golden yellow. Looking at pictures of Squash Bug egg masses on the net all appear to be the golden yellow color. I wonder if the bugs have mutated or maybe you have a different member of the stink bug family that has developed a taste for pumpkin plants.

The squash bugs would actually hid from me. They would run around the leaf stem and peak out to see where I was. The best trap I found was a board and a hammer. They would hid under the board, and then I would, well you know the rest of the story.

For your bugs, i suggest a squirrel trap baited with fresh cut flowers, suckers vines, and culled pumpkin fruit. If you don't have the heart to exterminate them, a trip down to "visit" Wizzy might be an idea.

A friend of mine who grows field pumpkins had great results last year with these traps. I listed them on my site.
