Hey! I'm a producer in Los Angeles and I have a film shoot coming up on Feb 2nd that requires a pumpkin or pumpkins. I need either a large 150lb pumpkin, or four 60-70lb pumpkins (Weight can vary). I know this is the worst time of year to be looking, but its required for our shoot! Is there anybody near Los Angeles who has some they are willing to sell me? I will drive pretty far to get one. Thanks!

You should use a foam pumpkin. The likelihood of someone having real pumpkins this time of year in the USA is just not possible.

Wrong Chris, in California’s warmer climates they can hold up. Check Anaid_Tecuods diary now still going. Also, they hold up if stored inside as I have a couple 50 pounders in a back room now.
Good luck with your search

It seems we get requests like this every year. As growers we ought to take note and store a pumpkin or two in a heated spot to get them through the winter.

You could check with the president of AZGPG he may know of someone growing in Phoenix. His email is on the AZGPG website. If you could wait some he should be throwing out little ones soon.

Baitman, mine that are inside now are around 67F and show no signs of going down.
Here's an AG outside in California.

Well my bad. I had no idea people keep pumpkins this far into winter. The seeds could be all sprouted inside by now.

Thank you all for the thoughts! I will look into the Phoenix grower as well as the user Smallmouth suggested. If anyone thinks of other possibilities that would be appreciated!

Ditto what Luke said, I like to keep them at household temps. Winter squash and sweet potatoes store best at the same temperatures that people are comfortable in. Most other crops store best in cool storage. I like to wash the pumpkins down with warm soapy water after harvest. This will help to eliminate any pathogens on them and prolong their life. I have stored an 80 pound big max for nearly two years. I kept a 600 pound AG through the winter into the spring back in 08. It definitely can be done.
