Ive noticed a lot of growers from years back quit growing. The great Pete and Cindi Glazier finally retired from growing, going out on top with a nice 2,000 pounder in their back pocket. But many others didn't quite reach that plateau before throwing in the towel. So then, what ever happened to :
Nic Welty, Tom Beachy, The young Alan Nesbitt, Ben Hebb, Glenn Needham, Mark Shymanski, Art Kaczinski, Todd Swarts, Kirk Mombert, Geneva Emmons, Wayne Kennedy, Fred Calai, Winston Wycoff, George and Deanna Lloyd, Rock Rivard, Brett Hester, Lincoln Mettler, Paul Handy, Jim Kuhn, Dr. David Garrell, Scott Armstrong, Ben Bortner, Kevin Holman, Polka Dot, and of course my favorite porn star (he wishes) Alun Jones ?

I've wondered about some of those growers Marc. A few other I'll add are Brooks Bosworth, Bob Troy, and Chad Revier.

Scott Armstrong signing in! Don't post much with work, coaching the kids teams etc, but I'm still at it. Grew a PB 1623 this past year.

It cost a lot of money and time to grow these pumpkins plus you got to keep in shape to be able to stay on your knees everyday. Rough

Personally, there are many days I’m lucky to get 10 minutes with the plants while it’s still light out. Between 3 kids, coaching and work, plants are on their own. Once my kids are a little more independent, I plan on really getting back into it. I’d bet that’s what happened to a few.

Brooks Bosworth, he used to email me Smallmouth stories. What a character and glad to hear he’s still growing. Does anyone remember the 16 hour shit post from years ago?

Lets see, Lincoln Mettler got married and stayed that way. Mombert grows for color still, or last I heard, but not growing competitive any more. Rock Rivard and Shelly Craemer got married and quit growing. Ben Bortner is busy being a normal 20 something, pursuing phototography I believe. Polka Dot had some life changing events and has stepped away from growing for a time. last I heard, Beachy was still growing commercially.

That is all really informative, thanks everyone. Alun has to find a patch where the pumpkins will not get vandalized. He hasn't grown for a couple of years because of that. Didn't know the name change Brett, thanks for that info. Your too good a grower to not be growing. No word on the Great Ben Hebb ? Benny are you out there lad?

That Ben Bortner guy made a career in finance. Then fly fishing. He moved to Colorado for 7 years and then to Key West in 2019, where he bought a pool service company and salt water fly fishes competitively. Sometimes he dreams growing giant pumpkins again, but that would require a move to a less tropical environment. Haha
Hope everyone is well!
