I know the AGGC was a pay site, which allowed some growers to have advantages over those who didn't or couldn't pay. I wish somehow someone could have negotiated something fair with Mike Neperney to keep it operational. The pumpkinfanatic site is more less a bare bones version of it, and is standing the test of time as a great asset as well. What is the official story on what caused the AGGC to be shut down, and is there a way to still pay for full access of that website? Would a merger of all info on both sites be possible one day? Hats off to both websites, and anyone who help(ed) make the data available for all of us. I personally wish to give thanks for all those efforts and work so we have that data available.

If I recall correctly, AGGC was free with limited access. You could only go back to 2006 and some of the enhanced features were not available.

If people would post photos of their pumpkins on P fanatic it would make it a better resource-I'm guilty of this

I used it all the time, and paid a yearly membership to, like 10 at first and 30 at the end. I think with membership you had tons of features available to use that others did not, unless they themselves paid for it. I hoped there was a way to get all access still, even for a fee. I have wondered what the story was on why it just shut down, and nobody ever took it over. I know Mike Neperney poured a lot of time into creating that site, so its hard to imagine he just totally stopped it without offering it to someone. I missed that part of the movie LOL. Thank goodness P fanatic started up right after it shut down !

I really liked and miss the AGGC as well. It's been awhile, but I think I had a paid membership as well. That was a top notch gentetics site. I'm thankful for P fanatic as well.

It was suggested and contact info given to see about something being worked out with the GPC, and as fare as I now he wasn't interested. He was also contacted about selling it and he wasn't interested in that ether. It was a great sight but it was his sight and he was very selective about who was allowed on the sight and some people were told no. He had every right to run it the way he wonted to it was his, and he had no interested in having any one take it over.

The AGGC was a paid for use site. In 2005 when the GVGO (Giant Vegetable Growers of Ontario) was born & just getting started, Mike contacted me & offered to give our members free limited access to his site, as a way to thank the Canadian growers who helped him when he was putting together the AGGC. This was a huge benefit he offered & it really helped to attract many growers from across Canada, US & Europe to join the GVGO. We offered this benefit to our members for 3 years. If you happen to be checking out this thread Mike, thanks again for all your help & support of the GVGO.

Thankfully we now have the Pumpkinfanatic site to help fill the void.

What I didn't like about the AGGC...it was not evenly available to everyone. When I was a new grower...found out that I could not get the same info as experienced growers. I was very happy when Pumpkinfanatic started. There is no discrimination between new growers and experienced.

I like the AGGC too, bit I think that the mainproblem was the sheer workload to hold a database like this up-to-date...especially as a one-man-show.....
In the last years the number of giants is almost exploded: I suppose that the AGGC from 2006 to 2011 includes 1600-1800 giants over 1000 pounds,....
..to this came additional nearly 3000 giants ( gpc-listed over 1000 pounds ) for the saisons 2012 to 2017,...a bit much for one admin.....I know this, because I work some statistics for crazy-growers.de and the pumpkin-growers of the state of Brandenburg.

Who should do that...?

In AGGC.org Queries was my favorite avenue. There were so many paths you could follow once in the site. Sometimes I would go into the site for hours and get unlimited amounts of Pumpkin information. One can only imagine what things would be like if he kept it going. Well worth the $10 per year. Attached interview was in our 2009 newsletter. If you had access to BP.com and AGGC.org you were definitely in the know.

Very nice article indeed. What is so unfortunate is the fact that there must have been something that irked Mike, and he just left it like that. A lot of newer growers would have been as addicted to it, as was I. At least we still have basic functions. Let's just make sure not to loose p fanatic.

It’s sort of still there. Good for looking up pumpkin history. I think sometimes life gets in the way of hobbies and that’s what happened to Mike. AGGC is missed but I think it pointed the hobby in the right direction before it was gone.

I think Pumpkin Fanatic is an awesome site. You can correct and upload your own information. Also upload unknowns.

I think Andy Corbin should get a BIG thanks for the work he has done on the pumpkinfantic.com site. When I was doing the pumpkinlink.com site it would take me hours going through and cleaning up the data for the website. The pumpkinlink.com data was taken over by Ken which only left use with the pumpkinfantic.com site and what would we do without it?

Totally agree with you. www.AGGC was great in its day, but are in the here and now, and we now have Andy's hard work in Pumpkinfanatic.com, to help keep the global history of our sport organized.
