How it works

The Croptix sensor works by clipping onto a leaf and using broadband visible/near-infrared light to non-destructively probe for physiological changes corresponding to specific states of a plant's health. By examining the leaf structure, this approach provides valuable information on the internal mechanisms of leaves indiscernible to the naked-eye and unascertainable with a standard leaf reflectance measurement. A patent-pending miniature spectrophotometer contained within the device captures light which has diffused in and reemerged from the leaf, and corresponding to an optical fingerprint representative, reveals the current physiological state. This optical fingerprint is then analyzed by an intelligent, cloud-based algorithm to diagnose the stresses (e.g. disease, nutrient deficiency, and water stress) afflicting the plant to a high degree of accuracy.

They are a start up company. If this thing works, it could be a game changer.
