I found this study interesting. I thought I would pass it along. https://www.extension.umn.edu/agriculture/forages/pest/docs/umn-uw-ext-weed-seed-survival-in-livestock-systems.pdf

Lol about the bindweed... So basically if there are any plants in hell we know which one it will be...
"7 days at 180 degrees F was needed to kill field bindweed seeds." (In moist environment.)
"In contrast, they showed the importance of moist manure in seed death in that seeds of all species survived a 140o F temperature for 30 days if not mixed with manure but heated in dry air. Raising the dry air temperature to 160o F for three days killed all seeds except field bindweed."

I use bindweed to tie the pollinated flowers shut. It has never failed to do a great job of this, if you yank a long piece of it out and tie the female pumpkin flower shut it never fails to hold. Try it...! They don't call it bindweed for no reason.

Pull out one piece of bindweed and it multiplies big time. Virtually impossible to get rid of and will grow anywhere. Till it and every 1" chunk of root starts at least one more plant. Each plant sets out about 20' of root under the surface and one main tap root. Every flower produces about 4000 seeds. Been dealing with it for years. I cover areas that have bind weed with mill fabric to keep out the light. Like most weeds they need light to grow. Short of taking out ten feet of fill and replacing it there is little to no control. If you don't have it be THANKFUL! It really sucks and it grows like crazy and will strangle any plant it's around.

Why fight it-lets have a giant bindweed category.
