Just wondering is there a biggest and best Howard dill award seed out there right now. I haven’t been paying much attention in this category but would like a pollinator for my 925 next year

Thanks for the plug Jamie! If you search my diary The 1561 is in there from 2014. It then grew me a late pollinated 964 that also won the Howard dill award in 2016.

If you're looking for sheer number of awards - a consistent orange + shape producer - I believe your top choices are still 811 Gerhardt, 1059 Vincent, 575 Wolf, with probably a Gansert or John Young seed in the mix.

If you're looking for something that can go 1500+ pounds, it gets tougher.

In that case, I'm thinking the 1661 or 1810 Werner has around a 50/50 shot of pretty, 1561 Reeb, 1269 Vanhoutte, and some of the 1317 offspring could be good candidates too. I'm considering the 1510 Carter and 1706 Kurilich myself.

Oh there are so many good seeds out there now. I am hoping my 673 Engel produces exactly what I have be striving for. A perfect Orange, Smooth, and Symmetric Giant Pumpkin. Howard Dill Award winning pumpkins back to the 777 Young, all crossed into each other.

I still think my 1109...multi generation selfed 1610 lieber could go big and pretty. It was hit with herbicide and still managed over 1100. So far it has grown one HD winner. I gave away all my seeds but 9. Maybe next year I will try to grow one of those seeds to prove myself right.

errr...Tony you are going to get me back into to growing orange. Not only would I have to grow prettier than Linus..I would have to show you how it is done. I was going to grow for big next year after my failure this year...but now...I don't know. What site for the Linus-Bnot-Kuebiko HD competition going to be at. We have 3 in the Mpls area. And each of us have a different preference as far as our favorite site.

I cant grow 3 tony..unless i don't grow tomatoes. Not enough space. I am thinking I will have only 1 or 2 pumpkins. Right now I am leaning towards one. Good thing that the one I am thinking about is already a multi-year selfed line.
