We would like to get some different input this year for topics for the GPC BIG Shows...
What type of topics would you be interested in seeing at a GPC BIG Show? Pertinent towards growing with greater success covering not just only pumpkins, but growing, and scientific minded subjects....
We would like to hear from you.

I think having Bryan Langley speak about using his soil calculator could be something of interest to all growers.

I agree with Barbeetoo. Bryans soil calculator would be a great subject. Especially for new growers.

I like all!
Changing patch dirt out like Don said is a good one.
And indoor everything by the Patons.

New techniques that contributed to the large weight gains in recent years.
Genetics and super crosses.
Plant, stump and vine management.
Water and fertilizer schedules.
Ok, were happy with any topics related to pumpkins....

-My most troubling area is..How to calculate quantities of nutrients to add to soil based on soil test.. - Getting pumpkins % heavy. I feel it's more so to do with what's being feed to the plant than genetics. I notice there are some growers that seem to consistently go heavy no matter what seed they grow.

Something I never hear much about but what is very important is how much have the OTT measurements improved over the past several years? Biggest grown to date I believe is 496” a few in the 480’S but most that go 2,000 plus fall in the 460’s. The smallest OTT to reach 2,000 447”. There were 15-2,000 plus grown in 2017, I think 12 in 2016 and going back a few more years 7-8 a year we’re grown over 2,000. A few did hit in the 470’s OTT back a few years ago and taking out the 496 and a few in the 480’s it appears the OTT’S have stayed steady the past few years. Without a big OTT your chances decrease to smack the 2,000 pound mark. We have made great gains with heavy to the charts but I think smaller gains when thinking of OTT measurements. Heavy weight is always spoken OTT’S not as much, it is just as important if not more in my opinion and more on this subject should be spoken!

Check my numbers (cause im old as shit) but like 9 of the 15 2000+ pumpkins grown in 2017 were from the 2145 McMullan, why? Heavy genetis, dumb luck and lotsa inches, or special techniques ya'all need to share? Great topics for our honored guest speakers to ponder and discuss! Cant wait to see ya yall at the conference!

I think well over 1/2 of all the top 150 growers grew the 2145. If that many people grew a seed from any of the other top 10 seeds from 2015 & 2016, you might find you get similar results. This year was an exception, as so many people grew it. What seed will be the next 2145?

I'll ditto what the difference between 1,500 1800 2000+
there's some things like climate and luck out of our control but what things is it agreed or very likely that "this or that" will bump you up by 100, 200, 300 lbs. Like what do you need to do to be in a certain category of yield. Like, "as far as we know, a 2600 lb pumpkin requires a greenhouse, a 2300 lb pumpkin requires xyz... but not a greenhouse..." working it all the way down, just so growers know what to expect / how much more they need to do to be at each level. I think this would be a useful way for growers to decide what to do or buy; it would help to know which things are not definitively necessary to be at a certain level; ...and it would be useful for growers to know whether their current results were in line with what others were getting at their same level of "investment".
