We will be moving our patch. Owner wants to turn it into a parking lot, and offered to move our dirt and help reconstruct a new patch. Been there for 11 years. Raised the soil up a good 18" however got lots of un wanted weed seeds especially sedge nut grass which seems to just love pumpkin dirt, Along with lots of good stuff too. Lots of Mycho has gone into my patch.

Interested in some good suggestions on setting up new. Drainage, good tillage and subsoil structure is a must. City water and electricity a must. Access. We got good light full sun, no trees. Hardpan clay to start. Wont be as simple as till, dump dirt ontop, till and plant. I want more.

Ask Don Young. He dug out all of his soil and replaced it with new soil. He might have some ideas.

First, I would make sure that wherever you set up is big enough that you can rotate - switch between at least two spots.

I wouldn't walk away from your investment. If they're offering to move the dirt, take it. Plow up the new spot, add the old soil on top. Then till. That's where you grow next year. That's what I did the year I had the 1407. In the meantime, get the 2019 patch ready with amendments and successive cover crops. See my 2012 diary for pics of how I got that patch ready.

Andy, currently it is a rock hard bulk yard surface. You suggest digging that up and tilling or laying several inches of fill dirt on the top them adding in our dirt?
Thanks

Guess I am growing a Jutras WR seed at home to grow the biggest damn Squash Colorado has seen... The WiZardnator comes back to life.... Ill sneak a Warrior Spray in when shes not looking, making sure its away from her veggie garden... At least Ill have one. Perhaps even two at home... Quality not quantity....

I would definitely hook up with Pete now that he’s out there wiz! Find a spot and the 3 of you could tag team a new patch!

Don't forget the hail netting. We both know the best soil in the world cannot compete with 5 minutes of hail.

Or Wind, this patch has zero wind protection and in the middle of a wind tunnel...ought to be interesting... BiZ going to have to really reinforce his hail netting...
