Thanks to all who made our trip to N.Y. possible. A special thanks to Rob Globus who drove the 2363 from HMB to N.Y. He left on a Sunday night and arrived safely in N.Y. on that Wednesday! He picked up Glen Martin in Chicago. I understand they got pulled over in Pa.going 80 but as it turned out the officer just wanted to see if the pumpkin was real. Thanks to Glen for doing all the arrangements and showing us how to navigate in N.Y. Thanks to Matt DeBacco for being the designated seed harvester at the Botanical Gardens. Matt actually entered the pumpkin headfirst, harvested the seeds, and was able to turn around and come back out headfirst! Thanks to Ken D. for his help in taking some of the pressure off by helping with questions from all the people at the Gardens. A big Thanks to Ian & Stu Patton, Joe Jutras, and Gary Grande for making the whole trip fun and enjoyable. All the Pumpkin People who was at the Botanical gardens received some seeds, but we still need to get some to Rob & Glen who weren't at the N.Y.B.G.
We have had many requests to see pictures of the 2363 lb. pumpkin. Now that things have calmed down a little, we have managed to get a timeline of the pictures posted on our website at www.hollandsgiants.com If you go to the home page you will see a little bit of hyperbole that our web designer came up with, but if you just click on the see more button, there are some neat shots of the 2363 from Harvest, to HMB, and finally to N.Y.
Thanks, and congrats to all you growers out here who did all the work, we all know it takes to grow a large pumpkin,
Joel & Mari Lou Holland
