The 150 square foot contest was very exciting this year. OK, so it was more exciting for some than it was for others but it was very competitive. The results are very impressive when you consider that the winner ranks in the top one third of all the pumpkins grown in the world this year. While we didn’t reach the 1K level yet there were 5 pumpkins over 900 pounds showing you can grow great pumpkins in tiny spaces. Congratulations to all who grew and we hope everyone had fun and learned something. If these growers can top 900# on just 150 sq ft, it makes me wonder just how big you really have to go to reach 2000#. Seems like a lot of the top growers are going with around 1000 sq ft. Looks like these 150 growers must be onto something. Congratulations!

900 lbs in 150 means you are onto something, even if your leaves fall over the edge of the patch, which is allowed, that’s still a very good result... congrats to all.

To compare these results to full size patches... add about 100 ft because a 10x15 150 sq ft patch can have leaves extending beyond the boundary. If the average leaf extends two feet ... 2 x perimeter (15+15+10+10) = 100 ft. So tthe production these folks are getting is similar to Willemjins got in 750, maybe better since one one of these guys cut his plant way down halfway through.

Blimey, did not expect to come first! Been great fun growing them this way. I set out to show the public in the UK that you can grow competitive pumpkins in a small space and that it is something the general gardener can do as a lot of people don't have large gardens here. The reduced vine burying through June was nice. Easy to spray plants and good fun experimenting with different training patterns too. Highly recommended it to anyone.

Best result ever in the 150 competition...5 growers over 900 pounds! Many of these pumpkins were also HD contenders.I predict the 1K barrier will fall next year. Congratulations to everyone. You showed great skill in getting to these weights.

Team-Pumpkin does not require or collect OTT measurements for the contest but from email and public records we found the following results. All values are using our Team-Pumpkin Charts which can be found at http://www.team-pumpkin.org/downloads.htm If your interest in % over or under is for seed selection then you should use the Team-Pumpkin Enhanced Chart and consider the weight range estimate for the pumpkin. Any pumpkin that falls in the range for its’ OTT should be considered equivalent and is what we call ‘to chart’. None are heavy and none are light statistically. Those that are outside the range deserve another look. In this sample there are 2 pumpkins that are outside the upper limit for their OTT range. Are they heavier because of genetics or growers practices, who knows. Wt % % to Team-Pumpkin Enhanced Chart 968.9 +16.6 7.3 948.5 +8.4 ‘to chart’ 948 +12.1 3.2 928.7 -2.3 ‘to chart’ 910.5 +2.3 ‘to chart’ 703 -8.6 ‘to chart’ 642 +1.1 ‘to chart’ 564 -1.2 ‘to chart’ 561 -0.7 ‘to chart’ 461 -8.0 ‘to chart’ 415.6 +4.7 ‘to chart’ 304 -1.0 ‘to chart’

Bart, guessing that 968.9 is an outligher (not sure if terminology is correct, but meaning to be...different). The only other one that I see, seems to be normal to the (VanHook) chart? 12% or more heavy is normal for the Slunger Brothers!!! LOL Keep up the great work!!! Peace, Wayne
