seed entries sum%+or- Avg % (over)
1812.5 Sherwood 6 55 9.2
1536.5 Tessier 4 29 7.3
1553.5 Weston 5 33 6.6
1795.5 McCracken4 25 6.3
1868 Sherwood 8 30 3.8
1463 Hoelke 4 14 3.5
1969 Haist 6 21 3.5
1469 Marshall 7 23 3.3
1944 Connolly 12 37 3.1
1678.5 Sherwood 4 11 2.8
2145.5 McMullen 68 183 2.7

Heads up: its hard to get statistically meaningful results from limited data... but I already had the 2017 list sorted though so I ran the numbers on it. The data limited to pumpkins grown by 4+ different growers in 2017.

I'm not a mathematician but from what I know about pumpkins and after dealing with the raw data my feeling is that the 1812.5 Sherwood is the only seed on this list that is statistically significant. There was an unfortunate seed on the other end of the list (% under) which was probably also statistically significant but overall I'm not seeing anything new here.

...Big orange pumpkins didn't do so well two of the biggest orangest pumpkins (I think both made it onto the top 20) came in last place in the negative territory for % hvy. That doesn't mean you cant win a competition with them... It just means they will have very large OTT in addition to their very large weight... (maybe a cross between one of these large OTT orange pumpkins and a heavy-at-the-scale pumpkin would have great potential?)

Have a great week.

Sorry my columns got jumbled again. Sherwood 9.2% over the new chart data from six entries... McMullen 2.7% over the new chart data from 68 entries.

By the way, 488 entries in the entire data set totaled -177 % points under the new chart,

-177 / 488 = -0.4% In summary, a quick analysis of about 500 entries shows them leaning just under half a percentage point light relative to the new chart.

Top 3 I could find...

1015.9 Verbraeken +35%
749 Voigt +31%
749 King +39%

There were a few others that I feel are probably entered incorrectly as one was +51% and the other was +152%...
