I have heard of two instances where a pumpkin was weighed at a GPC weigh-off and did not beat the state record. One grower reweighed at a feed mill and another went to a smaller weigh-off. State records do not have to be at a GPC weigh-off but reweighing is not right. Maybe this is allowed- someone can clarify. Thanks, Al Gibson

Personally, I discount feed mill and any other "certified" scale numbers. GPC is about as good as it gets so long as the scales aren't on grass. Yes, I believe there was GPC Weigh Off with scales on grass this year, if a potential state record came from this site and something was reweighed which resulted in a higher number, I may be so inclined to go with the new number. Otherwise, I'd personally honor GPC numbers as legitimate. I can take anything to my local feed mill and get whatever numbers I want, same goes for tomatoes at the local grocery store.

Jamie, sorry to have this started again, but? How do you go to local feed mill or grocery store & get whatever numbers you want? Are you calling all the local feed mills & grocery stores in your area a bunch of cheaters & liars? Seems like that? I hope ... well nevermind! Peace, Wayne

I think grain elevators can be off .1% so .1% of 500 pounds = .5 pounds. This is for heavy loads, they may not be as accurate with just a few hundred pounds

Stick a known heavy weight on the scale, then add your pumpkin. I think this may help on the heavy scales.

State record is unofficial bragging rights-if the pumpkin wasn't weighed at a major contest then theres always questions on its validity weightwise and soundness. Most areas with lot of competition the state record would have been weighed at a gpc contest but maybe not so in non pumpkinbelt states.

If theres a different weight than what was recorded at a major contest (for the same fruit) I would think the major contest weight is the only one competitors would consider legit for state records.

The Oklahoma record is held this way! Well he weighed at a scrap yard. To me if it's not at a gpc event I don't accept it in my mind. Not saying it wasn't true or he cheated just wish he had it weighed at a gpc event.

the scale on the grass was wrong. The grower was right to reweigh pumpkin and should not be questioned about weigh. It was brought to the attention of gpc rep as soon as it happened.

You should see how they are doing it here at some cheating events, ha ha, lol... (not saying that this is the case here, of course), now that would be funny to you to see it... but nothing odd here in europe considering everything... LOL

Wayne, once you start growing and competing, you'll begin to see and understand the bigger picture.
