After 9 years, Jake van Kooten’s BC Record (and World Record at the time in 2008) of 1536.5 lbs was beaten today at the Krause Berry Farm & Estate Winery Giant Pumpkin Weighoff. Scott Carley set a new BC Record of 1543 lbs, a whopping 21% heavy.

To make it even better, Jake was on hand at the Weighoff to support his daughter Kerri, as she weighed her first pumpkin over 1000 lbs, and he happened to bring the BC Record plaque with him just in case a Record was set today, thanks for being there Jake.

Congrats to Scott, he puts a lot into the hobby and so does his wife Kirsten who is responsible for organizing the entire Weighoff. Great job!!

It was a great day all around - a beautiful venue and lovely people. So glad my dad was on hand to pass the torch - I know he's been waiting awhile and is very happy to do so. And getting my first pumpkin over 1000 (1074) was a bonus.

It was great to finally meet Jake and his daughter. His provincial record of 1536.5 had been standing since 2008 which is a very long time. It sure would be interesting to see him grow with these new genetics.
