WTF? Just a genetics greenie so no big loss, approx 450 pounds. I'm stumped on this one. No water, no rain, no ferts or chemicals the past 2.5 weeks, just had her on cruise control....

Thoughts?

My first thought when I saw the pic was that it was dropped...

I had a pumpkin split like that a few years ago after a groundhog took a bite out of it. Cracked wide open. The first time Scott Steil brought a pumpkin to Anamosa, he had it wrapped in plastic. I was standing right by it when he cut the plastic and it split wide open with a loud pop. I think sometimes they grow on the inside after the outside has quit and they build up pressure. And just a small incident like a critter bite or relaxing pressure after a long ride or a temperature change is enough to set off a massive split.

The first AG I ever grew did that. Small 200 lber that I brought inside after picking it. Nearly split right in half. Temperature change from outside to inside was about 80f, that's probably what did it.

Wow, never had that happen in 20+ years of growing. Saw a few split like that in the past though and they wete all human caused. Two fair pumpmins kids wete jumping up and down on and one that fell out of the liftins sling when loading. Bummer though she looked like a beauty.

Might be direction of sun, making picture look real white on one side...but from picture I see, it does not qualify as a squash? Don't kill me for this but looks a lot white & not green? Any other opinions?

Geez Wayne, do you think the split might disqualify it? Do you think color really matters at this point?
