I was just looking at the 2017 GPC results page for pumpkins & noticed that many of the estimated weights do not match the new 2017 GPC Estimation Chart based on their OTT measurements. This is very odd. Here are a couple examples: 1. The 1621.5 Skinner shows an estimated weight of 1641 pounds and measured 433 Inches OTT. The new OTT chart shows that 433 Inches estimates to 1729 pounds. 2. The 1487 Harris measured 410 OTT shows an estimated weight of 1441; the new chart shows 410 OTT being an estimated 1506 Pounds.
There are quite a few other inconsistencies in the estimated weights...but many do match the chart, (or are just a few pounds different from the chart). There really does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. Has anyone else noticed this????

I just found an old chart and the incorrect estimated weights match up with the "old" chart. My guess is that these contests collected & submitted their data using last year's data submission form. That is my best guess. We'd better figure this out before we get too far along into the weigh off season, or we are going to make a real mess out of this valuable tool which we all use to evaluate the performance of seeds!

Russ, the 'estimated' weight if a factor of the software when doing the input. You can't actually manually input it.

I know, it automatically calculates the estimated weight. Which to me means that some of the data has been input into last year's weigh off report form rather than this year's form.

Good eye, Russ.

Some of the earliest weigh-offs got entered before the new equation was implemented. I know Ken was working on a fix. New sites coming in seem to be correct.

Also if you look closely the OTTs as presented on the main roll up they are rounded, but the equation is based on non-rounded OTTs. That will give small rounding errors if you try to recalculate. You can double check that by looking at the individual site listings, which show the decimals on OTT.

I will be fixing the earlier weigh-offs once I get all the remaining sites setup. With over 100 weigh-off sites, this stuff takes some time.

The chart will never be accurate across the board for all pumpkins. If anyone is shooting for this they are wrong it will never happen. Its impossible. Its just a ballpark estimate. If your kin estimates at 1500 lbs ?? Not meant to be spot on.You should land 1400 to 1600 lbs. Its a ball park.Just thought this should be explained to some newbies & oldbies.
