Just interested to find out what the soil temperature should be around when ready to transplant out? I know some use soil heating cables and small enclosures to help speed things up, but just looking for a rough idea on what the soil temps should be roughly around. I currently have a cover crop of Lupins growing and if the temps are getting close i might look at mulching them down and start digging them under. Cheers. Peter.

In NewEngland the early April temps can be 40 to 50 deg. F. With soil cables in the temps are more 60 to 65.

Yeah they won't do anything until the soil is warm enough. I would think in the 60's would be a good starting point.

That is also with hoop houses to create a micro warm climate for an early start.

70 degrees + at 6" depth. You can put black paper down around the plant with a circle cut out for a couple weeks to help. More importantly hill the plant 8 to 12' high. The raised dirt will get 6" depth a lot warmer than the level ground.
