Getting ready to build a tripod and need some recommendations. Seems like steel pipe might be a good way to go, but what diameter? Does anyone have some specifics that they can share about how to attach the pipe at the top? I've found some good diagrams for a wood tripod but nothing specific for pipe.
Thanks in advance!

The legs are 14' long 1-1/4 inch schedule 40 galvanized pipe with caps on the ground engauging end. The head was custom made by Mr Steve Handy, it has 1 inch threaded couplings connected to the base by grade 8 bolts.

Steve also made the lifting ring for us many years ago. We built 2 x 10 x 3' log platforms framed x 2x2s to hold the legs and keep them from sinking. I will try and post some photos in the next few days in my diary.
