Congrats to Reuben Frias, the grower of the 1401 Frias 2017, and Champion of the 2017 Heirloom Festival! After seeing everyone today at the Heirloom Festival and getting the scoop on what is growing in our Northern California Pumpkin Patches, it confirmed my suspicion that there are going to be lots of really big pumpkins grown here in the land of perfect September weather. It sounds like the six-or-eight-or-ten 2000 pounders that I predicted will be grown in Nor Cal are right on track. I'm afraid that there will be 2000 pounders that don't win at the big California contests this fall. With about a month to go until the tail gates drop, I'm afraid that there are going to be some sleepless nights here in Nor Cal!

Are we trying to scare the Midwest growers away from our West coast weigh offs? Or is this for real??

Extra CO2 and humidity from the fires I guess... Congrats in advance. Couldn't work outside today too smokey and I'm 50 miles from the nearest fire. How's it been down there?

We always wear air filters when we go out. It is just part of living here. Gary Miller can't wear one though because he smiles too much. We'd all be smiling if we had what he has growing in his patch.

Congratulations Reuben! I hate to burst California's bubble, but we've had perfect weather here in WA and OR and several growers are poised to get their 2000+ pounders to the scales. See you very soon California!

It would be nice if one of these top growers would offer to mentor me. Jim?
