I am new and this is my first year growing. I started late but wanted to see what I could grow this year. I planted Atlantic Giants and Jack-O Lantern seeds on June 8th and got a few of each pollinated in the Beginning of August. I have one per vine but my Jack-O-Lantern pumpkin is actually larger then my AG. My AG a little bigger then a 16 inch softball. My Jack-O-Lantern vines are longer then the AG vines, the only difference I can think of is maybe the JOL vines get a little more sun then the AG. This is my first year at this house and I wasn't clear on the sun pattern. I'm still learning about how to fertilize so I just gave them a general fertilizer in the beginning and kept adding manure compost from the big box store and now I added potash about two weeks ago.
I am thinking the AG should be larger, or is that normal for planting so late? do you think my seeds AG seeds are ok?
Thanks!

It all depends on weather, when it´s warm then peak growth starts earlier (and ceases earlier). Field pumpkins usually grow for only 30 - 40 days after pollination, and therefore their peak growth is in the range of day 15-25 (or could be 20-35, if weather is rather cold). Atlantic Giants usually grow for up to 80 - 100 days after pollination, their peak growth commences somewhen around day 25-35 (could be a bit earlier, sometimes a bit later). That´s why at the very early stage the field pumpkins might be a bit bigger, but after day 30 your Atlantic Giant should definitely be the bigger one.

Welcome Carl to this wonderful world of giants. If you need seeds for next year and/or have questions you can send me an e-mail by looking in my grower diary.

When the ag is around 20 days old it will start to accelerate its growth rate and be at its max around 30 days old.It will slow way down during cool fall weather

There can be a lot of inconsistency in AG seeds if you get a plant with good genetics it should outperform the field pumpkins you might have a dud

When we say "peak growth" is that in inches per day or estimated weight per day?

Raize, inches per day & estimated weigh per day are probably close to being the same. Inches on the chart equals pounds on the pkn! Peace, Wayne
