With about 5000 sq ft to worry about..I'm going to use my sprinkler for my veggie patch. Should I be more concerned with covering AG plants or kins themselves. 35 last night colder tonight. I ain't worried about growing a giant but keeping plants healthy?

Cover the pumpkins to keep them warm. Leaves can survive with ice on them. However frost will kill them instantly. So water to prevent frost from forming.

Was kind of along the lines of thinking that frost would kill the leaves and the kin would survive because of built up heat. I can't water everything. It's been so cold and wet my cherry tomatoes just started ripening. I was going to cover plants with everything I had and water my veggies. Gardened for over 30 years and know what frost will do to plants. 2nd year with AGs and was thinking protect the plant not the kin. Lots of area!!

It will take a harder frost to affect your pumpkin certainly but it's much easier to protect. I had the same concern last year I found the pumpkin was more frost tolerant than the leaves

Dodged a bullet. 32.5 degrees this morning. Kins are looking good!! I've only picked about a dozen big tomatoes this summer and still have hundreds of green ones. This year has been a nightmare. Maybe it was the praying...lots of work and no way to cover everything.

No frost here either Tony but low 30's too. We always quilt pumpkins and get spray nozzles out for morning. This helps at 30 degrees or warmer but below that we still get black leaves. Pumpkins will still grow for a week or more with frosted leaves though so don't unplug.

Found that out a long time ago with cukes. Would find them growing when the plant looked dead. Was wondering how you made out John. Saw Mt Mansfield had 31. Scofield farm a few miles away had some frost. You just don't expect it this time of year. 80s in a couple days...real weird year
