Today is the weigh off and I think there will be 3 entries. So good luck to Dale Marshall, Dave Iles and Patrick White. All three are either taking time off from work or driving several hundred miles to compete and make it happen. Hats off to all three!

Mr Not, now that it's been a couple years, I guess we can joke that Dale took breaking the state record quite literally.

Wow, it has been a few years. That incident still is fresh in my mind. For the new growers, Dale had an awesome pumpkin that he was having lifted out of his greenhouse with a crane. The cable snapped and what was probably the Alaskan state record crashed to the ground. That fall, every weighoff I went to...someone was talking about it. I hope Dale has one way heavier this year and a reminder that the weights are not official until they are on a scale. Be careful lifting your babies to take to the weighoff this fall. Good luck to all the Alaska growers..you have a strange environment to grow in.

lol guys , I would be lying if every time we lift a pumpkin ,that the thought of dropping it doesn't cross my mind , even today I was joking with my buddy Bruce ( the crane guy)..please don't drop it on my truck...Iam more worried about the rope and the knot underneath holding all the straps together than anything else.. when your lifting 12 to 14 ft in the air

that being said the weigh -off was a lot of fun , with a pumpkin coming out of Fairbanks winning it.. a big congrats to David Iles on the winner.. definitely caught me by surprise

Dale, I have a ton of respect for what you do every year. There is not one part of the process of growing in Alaska that is easy. You are fighting right up to the end. Then to top it off, you have to lift the pumpkin up in the air out of the greenhouse. My goodness, your nerves must be wrecked after it is all done.

Congratulations to Dave Iles for taking top honors with his 1231 pumpkin. That has to be one of the largest grown for that far North. Dale, congrats as well, as always some very nice pumpkins grown in sub par conditions this summer. Anytime you can get three to scale in the amount of space you have to deal with in Alaska I would consider it a successful season. Good to see the lifting ring is holding up. Get some rest if possible and may your 2018 season be a record breaker for all the growers in Alaska! Miss all you guys and the competition......JD
