This is not a hypothetical situation.
This is what I'm facing in the next five weeks.
If I choose to have my pumpkin weighed on a certified scale, then display it at a non-competitive event for a few days, is the pumpkin disqualified from being certified at a later GPC event?

I would think that's no different than preweighing your pumpkin. It shouldn't disqualify it.Curious if anyone disagrees -

GPC Rule # 6 6) No specimen will be allowed into competition at a GPC site if that specimen has been previously entered at another competition. As I understand rule #6. As long as it wasn't entered into a previous contest it's ok.

CMG, you coming to Republic Mo? On an average year, you'd win it now by a couple hundred pounds, but with great weather this year, it should be more competitive. I'd also do whatever needs to be done to stay legal since you have a potential state record, but I've seen some crazy things happen... remember the Josiah thing a couple years back . Get specifics and document

I would have to make the judgment call whether it is structurally sound to hold out until Republic, or if I would need to take it to Bloomfield the prior weekend. Republic would be DAP 103, and about 26 days after harvest.

Claremongoose...for some strange reason, without explanation, you seem to be asking the same ? over & over & over...weighing your pumpkin on a certified scale or displaying it,(do not enter it or have it weighed at this event...mark it as EXH only) is NOT a competitive and/or GPC event!! If you think your pumpkin will not make it to an official GPC event, then I would encourage you to have your local Ag agent attend the weighing on a certified scale, take pictures...maybe even have some official documentation done at that time. That way, your new state record will become official in Oklahoma! Peace, Wayne

Additionally, Wayne, are you familiar with the concept of "covering all of your bases" when it comes to ensuring that the rules are respected?
This is not only about respecting the rules, but it's also about a firing a "warning shot" to those with the "Good-ol'-boy" system at the weighoffs.
I couldn't even tell you how much money will be awarded to the winning entries within driving distance, because that's not why I'm doing this.
I'm laying out the groundwork to prevent any disqualification based on a technicality, or because a GPC official at a weighoff is holding a grudge against me because of what I post on this site.
Deal with it.

Food for thought! Your pumpkin will loose aproxamitly 1 # per day after harvest. Just remember that.

Claremongoose, As if any GPC rep would ever do that on purpose... Joe, Hobbit & Porkchop are all correct a lot of growers have personnal scales... The GPC was started by Dill, Eaton and others to avoid just that situation you described above.... Respecting the integrity of judges the fairness of competition and the rules by following them is good.....

If your worried about it couting towards gpc, take it to an earlier weigh off. And will still be a state record for the state it was grown in, no matter what state it was weighed in.

That's not the question that I was asking.
The question was in regard to the pumpkin being ON DISPLAY AT A FAIR FOR A WEEK prior to heading to a GPC event.

If there's no prize money it's not a contest..so yes, it would have been good to go to the goc weighoff...and you still should.,,it will count in Oklahoma if it's the biggest...wouldn't and doesn't count here in ny...DQ

What would be the point of taking a pumpkin to a GPC weigh-off when it was on display at a fair for a week? It will loose the needed water weight for it to weigh more?

Clare...I am obviously not a golfer...I am familiar w/the covering your bases concept. Not sure I like the firing a "warning shot" to "Good-ole'boy" system at the weighoffs? At the Ky. weighoff that I attend there are a whole bunch of Good ole Boys, that might take offence to your remarks! I hope you come on up to Kentucky & meet them! LOL If you are worried about GPC official grudges, then maybe you should just...be a little nicer to folks? Peace, Wayne

Claremongoose...seriously...? I guess you are not listening to anyone trying to help you get your new Oklahoma State record. My guess is that your "Go die in a fire." comment will not allow you into any record qualifying event. Sorta thinking that if you bring that mentality to Kentucky...you would be quickly be asked to leave!! I hope that your local AG agent is active on this site & will not show up when you try & weigh your pumpkin! Peace, Wayne Have a nice day!
