Am I just not seeing it, or does this website not have a comprehensive list of UPDATED pumpkin records by state, province, country, etc.?
One would think that this kind of info would be a basic element of bigpumpkins.com.
In terms of locating a table by state, the best that Google could do for me was a list updated through the 2014 growing season.
Yes, I already know my current state record.

That is not an up to date list, Wisconsin should be 2106 (Mike Schmit) at least, Pennsylvania is 2020 I believe (Quinn Werner) and Ohio is 2056 maybe (Jerry Rose)... I'm sure it's somewhat of a benchmark, but not complete.
It is difficult to get accurate records. My wife spoke with our State Department of Agriculture regarding the West Virginia records. As a general concept, it was explained to me that state records, at least our state, are kept more for fun and promoting a good growing season, rather than keeping up with us crazy people who find it important to compete for size each year.
My best advice is to contact your State Department of Agriculture if you have a special fruit. Most people just want to win the weigh off, but one extra step afterwards could help a lot of others find that inspirational number to chase.
Another reason, is most gardeners just don't go for the goals that we have sometimes. There is no state record for heavy carrot or long carrot in West Virginia, despite both being something I was looking for this year. There is a longest cucumber, but not heaviest which are different goals. Additionally, not many departments have a set of guidelines for measurements like the GPC has tried to lay out. Despite the clear rules for standard OTT type fruit, there aren't many guidelines set for other fruit measurements, and how to document for an official record.
Good luck getting one! I am updating the West Virginia list as the season progresses. Several of my submissions aren't the biggest out there, but will at least establish records for future chasing.
The best way to start updating to accurate lists is for the people growing the big ones to promote themselves a little afterwards. Lot of humble winners though that are just happy with the bragging rights.

Nothing worse than someone who complains. Every year they post send your updates. So it is their fault for growers not sending their updates.

Answer; it doesn't.
Nothing worse than someone who complains? You mean that it's unreasonable to expect this Mecca of giant growing to have a master list?

I feel certain if someone would volunteer for the task of gathering all the state records and sending them to Ken, he would be more than happy to put them on the site. The key word is volunteer.

And I will add a hats off to the Indiana crew for keeping their website updated. Yes, every year they ask the growers to send in their info but many times they have to wade thru all the GPC data to find it on their own.
Since a state or world record doesnt HAVE to be affiliated with the GPC to be a record, there are some states that have no data listed. I'm not sure what this group should be expected to do to get the information?

Why is that, Ray?
Is that an acknowledgment that you people have been too lazy to keep proper records on this site?
In case you haven't noticed, I don't hesitate to break a few eggs.

Because you are the one who wants the info. Its not about being lazy, this is not a for profit site so ANY info on here is appreciated. Who are "you people"? I dont have anything to do with this site or any record keeping for it or any other site.

That's nice, Ray.
Why should anyone be defending the fact that this site does not already have a comprehensive and current list of records by state, province, etc.?
If so many people know their own state records, why has that knowledge not been compiled?
One would think that the growers who visit this site daily would take pride in having a list, or table, of records readily available on this site, as a means of encouraging the hobby.

You spend half of the year preparing, and the other half of the year growing, and you don't care about proper documentation?
Answer this, Ray:
If the numbers aren't important, why are there so many rules?
Why use a certified scale?
Why go to such great lengths to ensure that everything is legitimate?
By your apparent standards, maybe we should just place the two largest pumpkins on both ends of a teeter-totter to see which one is heaviest.
You. Are. Dense.

I think everyone needs to take a breath here... We at the IPGA compile the records as they are sent to us. Ken is very busy taking care of everything else that needs done with this site and he does not need something else to worry about. The IPGA has maintained this list for a long time now and we do not intend to stop. Finding information on the internet is so easy, I gave you the link.
There is no need to fight about things especially this subject. If you want the list on this bigpumpkins get a hold of Ken and offer to do the work and let him link it. Otherwise click on our website and see the list as we have it. If you want change make it happen, if you want someone else to do the work then you really don't want the change to happen.
Just my two cents... Mikkal Hodge IPGA President

Can you confirm that Tom Rovenstine's Oklahoma record, from 2012, of 880 pounds, was never properly documented?

I'm throwing a few (written) grenades to help people understand what is missing when people visit this site.
It's rather embarrassing when you dig through 100+ results on Google, and you still don't have an answer regarding the largest pumpkin or watermelon grown in a particular state, province, country, etc...

Quick to complain but not willing to do anything. Start collecting the info if you think it is needed claremongoose. Set it in a nice format and send it to Ken. If it is good I am sure he woukd make a link for it. All the work here has been done for free. I am sorry that not enough free work has been done to your liking.

Claremongoose...I do not have a solution to your extremely specific, and extensive line of information. My parents raised me with several guidelines, to try & follow during my lifetime...one of which is "If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem." Another one was "Be nice, don't hit." It seems to me that you have were not raised knowing some of the simple rules of life, as I know them. Peace, Wayne

Ask your local club to do up their own state records & put it on their website. If your state doesn't have a club, then maybe you & a couple helpers can compile a list or start a club. Why would Ray in New York or myself in Ontario care what the state record is for Oklahoma? We in Ontario only keep World records, Canadian records & Ontario records on our website. If you do happen to break the Oklahoma record, congrats. Good luck to all. Phil & Jane

I have to agree with porkchop. If you are not a part of the solution, you are a part of the problem. I am not saying any one person is wrong, I am saying that if you see a problem and cannot find a suitable answer then get involved and make this world a better place. I for one am new to this site and am very excited to see people who have a passion for the same things that I have. But all this bitching and complaining about petty things has me thinking that I may not get on this site again. BUILD A BRIDGE AND GET OVER IT!!!!!!!

Why do I need to grow a pumpkin in Oklahoma? Spend some more time at your day job and add some protection and automation to your grow setup if you don't want to use excuses. I'm just saying you need to practice what you preach. Bp.com and the rest of us are lazy? I just did a 200 gal foliar in the time it took you to bitch on the computer. Maybe you could have remedied your issue with this website by documenting and updating a few state records in the time you have just wasted. Better yet, if you have such a problem with this site, start your own or leave. Good luck with your kiddie patch, get a life.
